Friday, August 9th, 7:00pm. This month our meeting will focus on a Willow Leaf trunk that is around 20″ wide, and about 4 feet tall. It has a lot of damaged branches that make it unsuitable for bonsai, but the top is great and so is the bottom. We will begin a process of reusing the trunk elsewhere, and air layering all of the 4-5 inch wide branches, around 12-15 of them. There will be enough air layers for everyone to learn on, so be ready to get your hands dirty if you like. Our meeting format will be a lot shorter than normal, so if you are used to showing up late, you might miss quite a bit! 🙂 Topics include this months calendar (which is posted already on our website!) to see if there’s improvements or adjustments and additions based on your input. Help us set the year! Seeya there.

April meeting!
Why, shucks, it’s April already!
And that means it’s almost elections! Anthony will be presenting our slate of potential officers at the next meeting, and then we vote on them in May. Make sure you talk to him if you’d like to step up and maybe make some change and be a part of the board.
This months program is a neat one, utilizing the talents and experiences of our very own club members. We will have a three person panel who will take a look at your tree and each person will give their opinion of the direction it could take. So bring a tree and let’s have some fun!
There will also be discussion of our participation in Club Night, the Club Tree display, and our portion of the raffle at the Bsf convention.
Jorge and Abner are working hard on an idea for club night, so don’t miss that.
We are responsible for the Friday portion of the raffle so please bring in donations for it. Thank you!
And this year, Bsf came up with an idea for each club to have an opportunity for a Club Tree Display. It can be one tree, or a Penjing/sakei, or maybe even a shohin or three point display. Send some ideas in if you can’t make it or bring some trees.
We have a fieldtrip coming up on April 20th to the Polasek museum, Mark will finalize those plans.
See you on the 12th!

March program: willow leaf ficus root cuttings
This month, Adam Lavigne, The Prez, will be talking about a propagation technique on Florida’s favorite ficus, F. Salicaria.
Adam will talk about the different uses of this technique, the history of it in Florida, and will have some examples of trees in various levels of development, grown using it.
The main tree to be demonstrated on (a big clump) came from the root base sawn off of a clump during a demo by the late, great Florida bonsai master, Jim Smith
There will be saws, wire, Ficus sap, bonsai soil, mayhem, and way too many bad jokes.
Should be a good time!
There will also be a discussion of next year’s officers, the upcoming BSFconvention , the Dragon Tree Nursery fieldtrip and much more.
The date: Friday, March 8, 2019
The time: 7:30 pm
Location: the UF/IFAS Orange County Agricultural Extrension Office, 6021 S. Conway Rd, Orlando Fl.
