Winter Protection

DECIDUOUS TREES

i.e. Elm, Oak, Maple, Hornbeam, Crape Myrtle, Plum, Cypress

Leave these trees on the benches. These trees need cold temperatures to start the natural process of dormancy. It’s okay if pots freeze solid.

HARDY EVERGREENS

i.e. Japanese and English Boxwood, Pine, Podocarpus, Juniper, Cedar, Azalea, Camellia. Note: Flowers will be damaged by freezing temperatures.

TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL TREES

Protect at 40 degrees and below:
Mangrove Aralia, Buttonwood, Fukien Tea, Bucida Spinosa

Protect at 35 degrees and below:
All plants in Mame Pots, Bottlebrush, Boxwood (Kingsville), Bougainvillea, Carissa, Citrus, Desert Rose, Ficus (all varieties), Gumbo Limmbo, Ixora, Jaboticaba, Lantana, Lignum Vitae, Malphighia, Neea, Portulacaria (Jade), Powderpuff, Schefellera, Seagrape, Serissa, Surinam Cherry, Samone, Tamarind, Tabebuia, Texas Ebony
