It’s almost convention time, meeting with old friends, making new ones. Realizing that a total stranger knows what you’re talking about when you say nebari or Jin.
That’s what characterizes the convention best for me. Not the exhibit or the demos or the workshops but the people.
People who do bonsai.
That said, it would be great for you to sign up for the convention but you don’t have to. The vendor area is free (with an artist booth that’s free), the display is free. The camaraderie is free.
Stop in and say hello.
This year also marks a return of an event called Club Night. This event is one where clubs from around the state are competing by building a landscape or scene that’s bonsai related.
The CFBC is participating this year so show your support by attending. You do not need to be registered for the convention to go or help out the team.
See Don, Walt, Betsy, or Juan if you can give some help.
This news is important; we WILL NOT be meeting on the 2nd Friday this month (which is the tenth) but instead we are meeting on the 17th for a business meeting (where several important events will be taking place one of which is the election) and we will have a show and tell and general workshop.
The program this month is on Sunday, may 19th at Noon.
The featured artist is Mary Madison. One of the best Florida masters. It is a bring your own tree workshop.

President’s Message for April

Hi All
It seems like we are having a classic spring this year. Warm, then cool, then warm; rain, wind and cold. Very interesting.
The weather should be smoothing out, I think though, very soon.
All your trees should be popping now. Hold off on fertilizer on those deciduous trees unless you are looking for fast growth. Otherwise you’ll get long internodes and that’s not what you want.
I’m fertilizing and trimming and fertilizing my ficus now and trying to jump start some growth.
This month, on Friday the 12th, we are welcoming Jim Van Landingham for a green island ficus workshop. All the spots are filled but someone may not show…..you never know. And Jim V is an excellent teacher and his knowledge of ficus is masterful. Just watching will be a treat.
If you wish to help Juan, Betsy, Don and Walt at the convention for Club Night please talk to one of them as the convention is just a little more than a month away.
And if you need more bonsai, the NoNaMe study group is having a meeting on Sunday April 21 at my house. Please contact me for details.
The Jim V workshop will begin at 7 pm so we can get everyone taken care of and all questions answered.
